The HOAs are not exactly happy about the way the ban will be implemented. For the ban to be enforced in these parks, each HOA must sign a request which requires law enforcement officers to enter the park. Further, enforcing the ban would require the HOA to close in the park from all sides, and designate a single entry gate.

With the ban, Rancho Santa Margarita joins a long list of California cities that have banned persons convicted of sex offenses from entering certain areas. Similar bans are currently in place in Laguna Hills, Westminster, La Habra, Mission Viejo, Los Alamitos, and Yorba Linda.
